Thekkady is the location of the Periyar National Park, which is an important tourist attraction in the Kerala state of India. Thekkady has become one of the oldest tourist destination in Kerala similar to Munnar. Beyond a normal tourist attraction, Thekkady is considered a heaven for natural spices such cardamom, cinnamon and clove.
Thekkady in Summer (March - May) Travelling to Thekkady in summers and touring the region can be tiring because of the rise in temperature; the temperature ranges between 36 degrees Celcius and 26 degrees Celcius. The days tend to be hotter, but the evenings turn cooler, making the weather pleasant.
The weather in Thekkady is salubrious with pleasant summers and cool winters. Thekkady experiences three distinct climatic conditions namely summer, monsoon and winter. ... The monsoon months in Thekkady are from June to September with an average rainfall of around 326 cm.
Major attraction in Thekkadi are elephant safari, trekking, boating in the lake/Idukki reservoir, sight seeing and animal watching. If you are lucky enough you will see a lot of elephants during your boating.
The boating is almost 1.0 – 1.50 hours journey through the Periyar lake, clubbed inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve. Boating at Periyar Lake is one of the major attraction at Thekkady. If you are lucky, you will get a unique opportunity to view wildlife at a closer distance from the boat. The probable animals that you may see while boating is Bison, Gaur, Wild Elephants, Sambhar and a wide variety of birds.
